UpHai user guide

UpHai checks your websites and APIs from several cities in India and tells you when they are down: by email, Slack, Telegram or WhatsApp.

Getting started

  1. Sign up and confirm your email address with the link we send.
  2. Add a monitor: the address of a page or API endpoint, e.g. https://yourshop.in or https://api.yourshop.in/health.
  3. Choose where alerts go: your email works right away. Add Slack, Telegram or WhatsApp under Alert channels (paid plans).
  4. Optional: create a status page for your customers.

How checks and alerts work

  • Every monitor is checked from Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi, every 30 seconds or every 1, 3 or 5 minutes. Free checks every 5 minutes, Starter and Pro every minute, and Agency every 30 seconds.
  • A check fails on a timeout, a DNS or connection error, a certificate problem, an unexpected status code (by default anything outside 200–399), or a keyword rule you set (must or must not contain some text).
  • When a check fails, we re-check from every location about 15 seconds later. You are alerted only when two or more locations agree the site is down, so one city's network hiccup doesn't wake you up. If only one location fails, the monitor shows Degraded and no alert is sent.
  • You get one alert when the outage is confirmed and one when it recovers, never a stream of repeats.
  • SSL certificates: we warn you 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before your certificate expires, and alert right away if it becomes invalid.

Monitor settings

  • URL and method: GET, HEAD or POST, for any public http:// or https:// address. Private and internal addresses are not checked.
  • Check every 1, 3 or 5 minutes (Free plans: 5 minutes).
  • Timeout: 1 to 30 seconds, shorter than the interval.
  • Expected status codes: 3-digit codes or ranges, like 200-299, 404. Anything else counts as a failure. The default is 200–399.
  • Keyword check: the response must contain, or must not contain, some text. Useful when an error page still returns 200. Not available for HEAD.
  • Headers and request body: one header per line, e.g. Authorization: Bearer …, and an optional body for POST endpoints.
  • Cities: all cities (recommended), or pick at least 2 so failures can still be confirmed.

Alert channels

Under Alert channels, add where alerts should go, then choose the channels on each monitor. Send test checks a channel is set up.

  • Email: up to 10 addresses per channel. Available on every plan.
  • Slack (paid plans): in Slack, add an Incoming Webhook to a channel and paste its URL.
  • Telegram (paid plans): add the UpHai bot to your group and paste the group's chat ID.
  • WhatsApp (paid plans): enter the number with its country code. We send a 6-digit code to it; alerts start once it's entered (codes expire after 10 minutes; you can resend). Each plan includes a monthly WhatsApp allowance. If it runs out, those alerts go to your email channels instead.

Maintenance windows

Planning a deploy or migration? Under Maintenance, schedule a window and pick the monitors it affects. During the window, checks keep running but no alerts are sent, the monitor shows Maintenance, and the time doesn't count against your uptime. Status pages show upcoming and current maintenance. If a monitor was already down when the window starts, its incident stays open and you are told when it recovers.

Status pages

Under Status pages, create a public page and choose which monitors it shows. Each one gets a public name, so your internal URLs are never shown.

  • Your page lives at https://<name>.status.<our domain>.
  • Custom domain (paid plans): enter e.g. status.yourcompany.in, add the CNAME record we show at your DNS provider, and click Verify DNS. The HTTPS certificate is set up automatically on the first visit.
  • Incident updates: post what's happening ("Investigating", "Identified", "Monitoring", "Resolved"). Open updates stay at the top of the page.
  • Paid plans can hide the "Powered by UpHai" footer.

Team

Under Team, invite people by email. Admins can manage alert channels and the team; members can manage monitors, status pages and maintenance. Only the owner can change the plan and billing details, or transfer ownership. Invitations count towards your plan's seats.

Plans and billing

Prices are in INR, with no GST added (UpHai is not GST-registered yet). Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the period you've paid for. If you go back to the Free plan, extra monitors and status pages are paused rather than deleted. An invoice is issued for every payment under Billing.

Agency includes priority support: email support@uphai.in from your account email and we reply within 4 business hours (Monday to Friday, 10 am to 7 pm IST).

Was that a false alarm?

Every incident page asks "Was this a real outage?". Please answer, and especially tell us about false alerts: we track them, and aim for fewer than 1 in 1,000.

Is it down in India?

Anyone can check a website from our Indian locations at /check, no account needed.
